In honor of Mother's Day coming up this weekend, I thought it would be fitting to write something focusing on who else - Moms! I think we can all agree that none of us would be here if it wasn't for our mothers. So, on the most special day of your life, why not create meaningful moments to celebrate the most special person in your life!
One way to honor your Mom on your wedding day is to, of course, wear something that belonged to her. Whether it be her actual wedding dress or veil, or just a piece of jewelry that is meaningful to her. One simple idea that I love, is pinning a brooch that belonged to your mother or grandmother onto your bouquet. This adds a unique and sentimental touch and they will be a part of you through the most momentous moment of your life.
It is already a tradition to give your mother a corsage to wear during the wedding, but you can make it more special for her by using her favorite flowers or colors, instead of having it match all the bridal bouquets. This will make her feel extra loved and appreciated and stand out from everyone else.
Another simple way to honor your mom is by taking special personal photos and video together. You could have the photographer and videographer capture a "First Look" moment with her, or something silly that captures an inside joke between the two of you.
Another idea is to have photographs of the women in your life from their wedding days set up at your reception. This could include your mom, grandmothers, mother-in-law or any other important woman in your life. You could get creative and make a sort of ancestral tree of all the brides in your family. This could also create more of a bond between you and these women as you go through old photographs. There is nothing more sentimental than a vintage photograph, especially of people you love. It would also allow these women to reminisce on their own wedding day and just make your day that much more meaningful to them.
We all know it's customary to have your father walk you down the aisle, but who says you can't include mom too?! Some brides are now having their moms, or both parents, walk with them. If you decide to go the traditional route, then maybe include a rose ceremony in your procession. Before you get to your groom, stop and give a rose to your mother and mother-in-law. This will make them feel loved and valued and it shows you are appreciative of them as well.
You could also include a Mother-Daughter dance during your wedding reception. Usually the Father-Daughter dance is the tear jerker, so I say make this fun! Dance to a song that only you and your mom danced to in your living room as a kid! It may still produce some tears, but they will be from happy memories that only you and your mom shared.
So, when you bring your mom the standard bouquet of flowers this Mothers's Day, go a step further and think how you can incorporate her into your special day! After all, she's done a lot for you and it will mean the world to her that you thought of her so much to include her in your most precious memories.
